just a few random things from the last few days:
Politics: I watched most of the democratic debate from LA the other night, it was actually better than i expected it to be. The Johns (Edwards and Kerry) were trying hard to differentiate themselves from each other. Edwards, as a good southerner, took a strong states’ rights stance on the gay marriage issue (which still raises full faith and credit & privileges and immunities issues under the constitution but you gotta give him credit for trying). haha, and mark my words people because you’ll probably never hear me say this again, i actually agreed with a few things al sharpton said–i know i know, i can’t believe it either. he found a very succinct way of stating my take on gay marriage. i don’t recall his exact words, but it was something to the effect of “this is a human rights issue and unless you’re ready to say gays are not human beings, they should get the same constitutional rights as any other human being”. dennis kucinich was hanging in there, but he was quiet most of the time pretty much because no one asked him anything or really cared to hear what he has to say. however the few times he was allowed to speak he threw in how he would immediately cancel NAFTA and the WTO and enact a national single-payer health care system. (dream on hooker, dream the fuck on–mad props to anyone who can indentify the reference) haha, on a side note, i got one of those pre-recorded campaign phone calls today, apparently danny glover is endorsing kucinich. for some reason, i found this really, really funny.
but i think the best part of the debate was when larry king asked kucinich a question and looked over at one of the other moderators while kucinich was responding. apparently kucinich felt snubbed, so as he was talking he threw in “larry, larry!” larry king looked back at him and says “you know i can listen to you and look somewhere else at the same time–its an old jewish trick” and good old al sharpton looks at larry king, dead serious, and says “don’t get racial larry”. it was hilarious.
Applebee’s: SUCKS. ’nuff said.
Gas: 2.05 at friggin valero, WTF?
Old Computers: Pearl had an entry on her site about her first computer. that got me thinking about my first foray (that’s right, i said foray) into the computer world. my first computer was a commodore 64 portable–yes, portable. that thing was a monster. it’s processor ran at a mind-blowing 1mhz (to put that in perspective for non-nerds, my laptop runs at 1.6ghz, which is 1600 times faster). i also happened upon my my dad’s first post-slide-rule calculator from his college days. its a trusty ti-59 this thing is pretty bad ass for something from the late 1970’s. granted, the ti-85’s we all swore by in high school have 28 times the memory of the ti-59 and can do so much more, the thing could still do a helluva lot. put simply, it was an engineer’s dream calculator. it was friggin expensive though. in 1976 it cost $299. in 2003 dollars, that’s $1003. my dad got his money’s worth though. he used it until it completely crapped out in the mid-80’s.
i had more random thoughts, but i think that’s enough. i’m tired of typing and i’m sure most of y’all stopped reading long before now anyway.
