ha, so i caught the opening skit of SNL tonight just before i switched over to west wing and they had horatio sanz playing kim jong il at a press conference where he was announcing north korea’s nuclear missle program. it was hilarious, though i’m pretty sure horatio started with a latin accent before slipping into some half-assed korean accent. i was hoping some super-dedicated nerd would’ve have been transcribing that skit as it was on so i could post it, but all i could find was a skit from 2 years ago. oh well, maybe i’ll look for it tommorow.
in other news, i’ve been finding myself sleepier these days. i don’t know what the deal is, but the last week or so i’ve been ready to pass out at like 10:30 which is unusual since staying up till 2am is usually not a challenge for me. yes, i know, i’m up at 2:30 right now but i’ve been fighting the urge to sleep since 5pm. i was gonna go to bed at 11:30 on thursday but then i saw a commercial that said robert randolph and the family band was going to be on conan so i fought to stay awake. i think i finally fell asleep sometime around 1:15, missed the band entirely and woke up part way through carson daly’s show (which is even worse when you’re only half awake). the worst part about it is that i really do most of my work between 10pm and 3am so i’ve been horribly unproductive the last few days and the work has been piling up.
and for all my law school peeps, i unloaded a crapload of lexis points today on dvds. for the non-law school folks: lexis nexis is a legal research website that us law students get to use for free and, in an effort to buy our love for when we actually have to pay for it, everytime we use the site, we get “rewards points” that are redeemable for stuff through amazon (every item on amazon has a corresponding point value). so i had over 10000 points going into december, i spent a couple grand in december for 250′ of speaker wire. it was very much spur of the moment as i was setting up our new speakers. i had a little over 8000 points left today so i got the complete 4th and 5th seasons of the simpsons and the complete first season of macgyver. that’s right, macgyver. it was a tough call though b/c the first season of night court is apparently out on dvd also and its been so long since i’ve gotten my richard moll fix. anyway, i got about 1300 points left so i’ll see how many more points i can get before school ends and i’ll get another movie. i dunno, we’ll see.
so i was watching the documentary on pbs about a festival they had in watts in the 70’s (at least that’s what i think it was) and it was odd. not the festival, but the documentary. they had random clips of richard pryor, bands on stage at the festival and general walking-down-the-street video all mixed together. but the best part was when the guy who sings the funky chicken song was on stage wearing hot pink bermuda shorts and pink frilly shirt, and they showed like a thousand people all doing the funky chicken simultaneously. but then the documentary cut to a clip of richard pryor calling someone a jive turkey…so this got me thinking, in a fight, who would win: a funky chicken or a jive turkey? i dunno, funky may have the upper hand on jive just in terms of attitude, but jive is more unpredictable. its a tough call.
anyway, that’s all i got for tonight though i do plan on writing an entry about people who post on the imdb.com message boards. hopefully, i’ll get that entry out of my system as a study break later today.
